I started taking a serious look at making gold in Warcraft several months ago. I rediscovered a few blogs that I knew about before. I took a much closer look at those sites and started to make more gold. I got more involved and found myself teaching other what I had learned. I turned to my own blog to do that.

That is how My Auction House Banker got started. One thing that separated me from other bloggers and helped me build connections with others is how I will dive into code for solutions. My KTQ mod was a big hit and it saved a ton of people a lot of time. Now I am looking to expand my topic area a little bit and bring more code solutions to my readers.

So I have moved the blog to a webserver and taking this opprotunity to rebrand it. The new home is www.ithinkincode.com/warcraft and is now called Kevmar on Warcraft. All of my old content was moved over and is ready for you. Gold will come to you when you are doing the right thing.

Patch 3.3 getting close

We are getting close to that point where we need to start watching for the next patch. Here are some important details to keep in mind when trying to guess when the patch will arrive.

Battle.net account merger is required next week. Support will be flooded with people that don't understand why they cannot log in. The smart thing to do would to be wait for that to settle. The patch will not be next week.

2 week notice for when the 310 achievement mounts will go away. This needs to happen this next patch. With the next tier of content, this will be that much easier to get. The ideal time to remove this is during the 3.3 patch. They did say they would tell us 2 weeks before the change and I did not hear them announce that yet.

Activity on PTR. There is a lot of activity on the PTR at the moment. Play testing the encounter like they did for ulduar. They recently had a developer event on the ptr where players can join the new LFG tool and play with a blue. This type of activity indicates major features are done and they are doing bug resolution passes. This is why I think the patch is getting close.

Major holiday is getting close. They will not release the path the week of the holiday. In the event that something needs to get immediately fixed, they do not want the holiday in the way. It will either be a week before the holiday or 1-2 weeks after. If they wait until after, they get a good deal of ptr test data from the people on break. This fleshes out any uncovered bugs and gives them a week for a dev/test cycle.

Historic release dates point to the first week in December. If you look back at patches going live, you will see that the first week in December has been a popular one. Part of that could be the position of Thanksgiving in the week before. Looking at the time between patches would indicate we would not see this patch in November. Does not make it impossible, but its way to close to the releases behind it.

Arena season for the last 3 seasons were around 17-18 weeks. They tend to release a patch just before the end of the season (1-3 weeks). That gives them a bit of time to uncover any balance issues in arenas before the next season starts. This season started Sept 1 and a patch early Dec would put that 13 weeks into the season. 4 weeks before the end of the season is pushing it. They may cut a week off of the season or release the patch mid Dec is this is any kind of indicator.

Before I started looking at all these details, my gut was saying to keep an eye for the patch as early as one week before thanksgiving. Now that I looked into it a bit more, I am favoring early December. Looking at the 8th from everything else I looked at.

My first pet

It was such a long time ago, but I still remember my first pet. I was a fairly young priest at the time. New to the game and struggled to save every silver. I remember looking at the snake pets in org when I would visit my trainer.

One time I chatted with the snake vendor looking over the pets he offered, I actually had 70 silver. I was a little excited at the idea of having a pet. For 50 silver it had to be good. My mind was filled with visions of my snake attacking my foe. It would be such a great thing for the weak class that I was playing.

So I forked over the 50 silver that I saved so hard for. I got the pet out and was kind of hoping it would be a bit bigger. But as long as it did sick damage to the mobs it would be worth it. I headed back out into the wild to check out what my new helper would do.

The stupid thing just stood there. No attack command, so way to control him, and he would still just stand there as I was attacked. It was such a worthless pet. It didn't actually do anything. When I went to get my silver back, the snake guy wanted to rip me off. So I kept the snake.

Not only was this thing not helping me, he actually got in the way of my healing. Sometimes when I would go to click on my self or a party member to heal him, I would get the snake instead. I would try to heal over and over and it would never go off because I had the stupid pet selected.

It also took up a whole slot in my bag. I eventually just tossed him away because I needed the room for something important like a pair of grey leather boots off of a ghost in SM graveyard. That was the last time I ever paid for a pet. No way was I ever going to make that mistake again.

Restructuring

I am working on rebuilding this into a website. Picking out domain names, crafting a new look, setting up a web server, and thinking up new content. I have several mods or programs I want to focus on a bit more and need a home for them. Not all of them are related to making gold. I have one big idea that is related to making gold and it will need a better home than a post on my blog. (more on that later).

I have been thinking about these things and have let them distract me from the blog. That happens from time to time.

Some things in progress

I have a hand full of things I am working on. I am manipulating the AH in a few ways that's too soon to talk about yet. Just put in place some revisions to our loot system. Making updates to the KevTool NoobDetector.

I have been running my KevTool NoobDetector for a long time now and got to thinking about other things I can do with it. What if it had a feature to give you a report on the raid you are in? You get into a group or raid and have it do a raid check. It reports back how the group averages and possibly points out the top 5 noobs for you to watch.

My loot system changes were just an increase in weekly decay and to add a minimum decay amount. People raiding normally will not feel much of an impact. People that miss raids will feel it more. Also adding an attendance tracking component to it. Already have that written, but need 6 raids worth of data to make it accurate.

I am also cutting back my auction house time as much as I can. Trying for no camping in a few markets. I also don't have many idea to post about while I work out some details on a few other things. I hate to spoil any of my ideas by talking about them here to my competition.

DE Patch Details

I think I'm slacking on keeping up with my patch notes. A detail that almost slipped by about the group loot disenchant option.

You have to have an enchanter in the group for it to be available. And he as to be of level to DE the item. It is just a way to accommodate the people doing cross server groups that would normally trade all the DE items at the end but can't because of other restrictions.

Also while the need option restricts what items you can need, greed does not have that restriction. So if the armor class of the item is not one you can need on, greeding is still an option.

AHK, G15, and other Jedi Magic

People constantly look for ways to improve the glyph making process. One question that people bring up a lot is auto milling (or auto prospecting). There are technical ways to do this but they exist outside of wow and at face value they break the ToS. These other methods are a use at your own risk. It is a very gray line where usage of these ticks will and will not get an account banned.

I also want to mention that I am not a lawyer and this is my interpretation of the ToS and other information I have found. These are my opinions on the topic and you should form your own opinion.

The Jedi Magic that I am talking about are the ways you get around Blizzards built in limits on macros and actions to get wow to do more with less effort. Auto milling is that example. Many people look for ways to automate the milling process. Some external scripting/macro programs will simulate key presses, some hardware is programmable and will allow automated key presses, some hardware support turbo options to repeat a single key over and over while it is held down. These are all tools and some are very common.

As tools they do not break the ToS, but you can break the ToS with them. Just like carrying a hammer does not break the law, but swinging it at someone does. AHK is used by multiboxers, G15 sits on the desk of many gamers, many control pads have turbo button options, and every computer has vbscript installed. There are ways all of these can be safely used and ways they can all get your account banned. This is why this subject becomes very grey.

The closer to that line you go, the higher your risk is. Because the devil is in the details and the line is not so clear cut. You don't know if the guy checking on your activity understands these details. Just because you think your within the ToS the other guy may not agree.

Here is a good rule of thumb. If your are sending actions to your character and you are not at the keyboard then you have broken the ToS. If you have something making game decisions for you then you have broken the ToS. This is why AHK is allowed for multiboxing. Each keystroke is done by the user at the keyboard and AHK sends it to the other windows. If that same user put timed actions into AHK (like self buffing every 30 min) then he is breaking the ToS. If he sets it to press his mill macro every 3 sec for 15 min and he walks away from the computer, he broke the ToS.

It is hard to tell if they will ban you for auto milling/prospecting. If you auto mill but stop to chat with the GM when he pops up, I would guess you could save your account. This is why its a use at your own risk. If you are looking for help on how to do this automation, please look someplace else. I will remove comments asking about or giving too much information on how to do this.

Recruit A Friend

The Recruit a Friend program is a great way to power level some alts. I saw the power of this and decided it was so broken that I had to take full advantage of it. I even sold a few friends on the idea. The result was a power leveling marathon that got me 11 chars over level 60 and several alts for my friends.

Let me give you a short overview of what RAF is. It is 2 accounts linked together that gain 3x xp while they are playing together (and are close in level). Also every 2 levels the recruited account gains, he earns one free level he can gift to the recruiting account. So it works out to about 30 levels that can be gifted. These bonuses stop at level 60.

Because this stops at 60, you can take advantage of all of these things with just the original Warcraft. So for $20.00 it costs to pick up a 2nd account, you can level a pair (or several) chars to 60 very quickly. If you pay for one month on the 2nd account, the first one gets a free month. So that $20.00 gives you 60 days to use this as much as you want.

Leveling at triple xp is so fast. I was able to quest to level 10 with minimal work. I would spend 10 to 20 in sfk. Every full clear of SFK would ding a level on both chars. After SFK I would go off to SM. The problem with these low level instances is running them too quick and being forced to take a break. Once we got the system down, we were able to get that last pair to level 36 in one day.

I mentioned all my SM tricks the other day. If you read over those, you can tell I spent good deal of in there. I would go to zf or brd after SM for a few levels and finish out in strat. Once I got into strat, I found the best pulls to make in 12 min and then would reset. I would hold out in here all the way to 60. Most leveling guides take you to outland instances at 55 but you need tbc for that and I was doing this on the cheap.

Don't forget to fill the group when doing instance runs. There is a bonus xp for having more people in the party that most people overlook. It adds up and makes a difference.

The gifted levels can only be given from the recruited account to the recruiter. The person receiving the levels must be lower than the person giving them. You can also save these levels up and spend them at once. You can take a level 1 and just hand him 29 levels. If you are smart, you will power him to level 31 and then grant him the 29 levels to get to 60.

There is also a special trick you can do to basically skip level 60. You still have to get to 60 on the 2nd account first. On the first account, get as much xp as you can with out hitting 60. Stop at 59.999. You xp bar should be as full as you can get it. Then have the 60 grant the 59.999 a level and he will be 60.999. Your XP bar will still be just as full as it was. You basically got to skip level 60.

I know that this is information overload on RAF. Like I said, I walked out of the RAF program with 11 chars over level 60. Yes, that is on 2 accounts. Yes, I did some how end up with 2 mages and 2 warlocks. Yes, I still have not purchased spell or spent talent points or have any gear on most of them. Yes, I have classed that I probably will never play. But if I get the urge to play one, I start at 60.

PS: Slates had some updated information for me about an old bug with linked accounts. I used raf the first month it was out over a year ago and it sounds like they fixed a few things. Before I would make sure the level 70/80 char was not linked to the others, but it sounds like that does not matter anymore. Also I heard that you get 30 free levels now instead of 29 to gift.

Lowbies in SM

Marco over at JMTC posted some good places to power level someone. I abused the RAF program as hard as I could. Once of my key spots was SM. From lvl 20 to low 40s I would grind SM Armory and Cath for XP. Here are some important things to remember.

All 4 wings are on the same instance ID. For as short as each one is, you should do 2 wings before you reset. Even then you will run into the lockout timer. I joined a XP farming group in SM cath once. Prot pally would do 1-2 pulls and kill everything. We did it 5 times and they said they would be back in an hour. After talking with them, I realized they had no clue they could also go clear armory between resets.

Do 12 min resets. If you are resetting in less than 12 min, you will run into the instance lockout. You should be able to do both armory and cath in 12 min. If it takes you too long, consider skipping the bosses. The little bit of xp they give for that extra 1-2 min they add slows you down. You are doing raw xp per 12 min here. If you blow away that 12 min mark, do the hallway in the graveyard (not the courtyard). That first room has 12-15 mobs that are quick to get too.

Avoid the library. Do it for the gear and the key and leave it alone. The mobs reset easily and respawn quickly at the start. It is just extra trouble for you low level chars.

Remember that a lvl 20 has an insane agro range. If the low level can see a mob, he will probably agro it. In both cath and armory, you have to kill the first mob before the lvl 20 zones in. If not he will usually die before the loading screen is gone. Remember you can get xp from behind walls and at a long range. There are safe spots

The first safe spot in the armory is in that first room. Stand to either side of the doorway. I prefer the right corner with back on the wall. I run the main into the courtyard and grab the mob on the stairs and round up the whole room. I pull them too that doorway and kill them just far enough away that the low level cannot see the mobs.

The second is on the other side of the courtyard in the far right corner. Put your face in the corner of that room. take the main down stairs and round up all the mobs on the lower level. If you kill them all near the bottom of those first stairs you ran down, that low level will get all the xp from them.

The third and final spot is down stairs. Go to the set of stairs that goes up and left along that wall in the corner is where you want to stick him. Not the little corner next to the stairs, but the corner of the room to the left. Run your main up stairs and agro the rest of the instance and pull them back near the top of the stairs.

In Cath I run the main in first and drag the mobs in the all into the courtyard. The alt runs in behind and stands to the left of the courtyard about 10-20 yards. Looking at the mini map, have him stand near the corner of the courtyard. With the main, drag everything to that corner on the inside and kill them there. If you have to do it in 2 pulls, move the alt up near the waterfall but make sure you kill the pat. (That pat would kill me all the time)

After the courtyard in clear, park your alt in the left corner next to the cath doors. I put the face in the wall. Run in with the main and agro the boss. Pull the mobs to the middle of the walkway you ran down to agro the boss. Killing the mobs here will give your all xp even when he is standing outside the room.

I was using a 70 mage to do my power leveling. I had to do the armory in 3 pulls and cath in 3-4 pulls. With a level 80 you can much larger pulls. I knew some 70 that could 2 pull cath but dying just a few times slowed me down too much. I have 11 chars over lvl 60 from RAF and I never ever want to step foot in SM again.

No more trash from fishing pools?

Sometimes little thing jump out at you.

I was reading about the new fishing event to be released in 3.3.0 and it was mentioned that in 3.3.0 you never catch trash from fishing pools, regardless of skill. I don't know how I missed it the first time but I saw it there.

Because they are changing things related to fishing pools, watch those markets. I don't think this should create a large shift. Because it should be easier to catch fish in pools, expect more of those fish on the market.

A quick DE at new drop rates

I checked the AH mid day on sunday for de items and purchased 440g worth of them in 29 items. I got 25 Grater Cosmic Essences at 11g, 71 Infinite dust at 3.9g, and 2 dream shards at 20g. That gave me a DE value of 591.90g.

At the moment that is way over inflated and I expect the prices to drop way down on those mats. I bet infinite dust will settle under 3g each and the essences under 9g by the end of the week.

At the moment I am flipping everything as fast as I can before the price drops too much.

The Competition

Normally I ignore the competition. I mean that I usually care less at what they do and do my own thing. I react to the market more than what an individual is doing. I would imagine that I miss some opportunities to mess with them by ignoring them. Recently I cut back my presence in the glyph market. Posting fewer times and not crafting as often. That threshold that I used to have lower than everyone else has been pulled up. So my market is very cutthroat at the moment and I am adjusting to let everyone else fight each other.

I decided this is a nice time to take a look at who they are. I put together a spread sheet and logged various details. What class of glyphs, min and max buyouts, durations, post counts. I ended up with over 50 names of posters. Some only had a few up so I didn't record much more than the posting name and what looked like min buyouts.

I found 7 major player that covered all glyphs with a single character. I found one player that used 3 atls and was able to connect them to each other. I also use 3 alts and I believe it would be very easy for my competition to connect them to me. Of those 8 other players, 3 of them post their entire inventory for 48 hours. 2 of them post 2 at a time for 48 hours. 3.07g was the highest threshold of them. Looks like 2 do not have a threshold. Only 2 of them had a high fallback (60g ish) and the others had fallbacks of 7-14g.

Of the remaining names on the list I found 7 people posting glyphs under 1g, 11 people posting some 1-2g. Most people posted with 48 hour auctions. I saw about 5 listings where the glyphs were in a stack.

I also saw a few people with a small representation that I know also work the market. I expected to find them as one of the major players but they had a small representation on the AH. Many things could cause this so I will not rule them out. They could be more selective with the glyphs they are posting in this market now or even giving it a chance to reset.

So I will say this market feels more cut throat than before. This last week I only crafted twice and posted less than half of what I normally do and had 740g a day in average sales over the last 6 days. That is way down from the 3-5k a day I was pulling a month ago. But I'll hang back collecting my small sales and be ready to dive in whenever the market resets.

Hot Tip: Disenchanting & Shattering Hotfix

Unload that infinite dust fast and hold on to your disenchants. It sounds like there is a hotfix on the way to change the drop rates when disenchanting. Odds are this will be applied on next server reset. So some servers will see this sooner than others.

KTQ is the short command for KevTool Queue. I think you can type out /kevtoolqueue queue 14 glyphs but /ktq queue 14 glyphs just flows better. It also felt strange typing out the word queue twice.

When I first wrote my mod to auto queue things into skillet, I added it on to a personal mod I already had. Kevtool and the command was /kt. At the time /kt queue was the command I ran to queue up all my glyphs.

Once I decided to release it as a mod, I pulled out all the queue logic into its own mod and renamed it. It bothers me a bit now as I type that command. /KevToolQueue Queue 14 glyphs. But now that it is in use, I don't dare change it.

Reading Patchnotes

One of the best ways I used to make gold before I truly started working the AH was from the patch notes. I think a lot more people do that now so it makes predictions a little harder but its still worth reading.

Transmute titanium is off cooldown. So you will be able to make titanium bars from 16 saronite. If dream shards are high on your server, this may kill the price. There are some things you can craft and DE into shards with Titanium bars. Looking at the cost of saronite and dreamshards on my server this will not change much. But on some servers it could have a larger impact.

I expect saronite bars to spike in price on patch day. I also expect titanium bars to crash for a few days shortly after the patch. I bet 3-5 days after the patch. This is from all the new titanium bars on the ah where the demand is still low. The 3rd time someone is relisting it is when its going to get really cheap. A secondary effect could be the drop in price of titansteel bars. When the mats drop and people remember that cooldown they have, they will produce 3-6 bars over the next week.

There is also a vendor item for the Quel’Delar Quest Chain: The Battered Hilt quest chain that you can pick up off the inscription vendor. I expect this will sell well in trade and on the AH the first few days.

AION

I am starting to work AION into my game schedule. I am cutting back on how much I work the AH and spend in WoW. Because of that I may not be posting as frequently and I have before. I picked AION for something different. I will prabably keep my raiding schedule and post some things in the AH every few days. I needed something different because I know wow too well. I am not saying I know everything, but it feels like it some time and gives that chance to discover something new.

It also has a very different economy that will teach me new things. A new market to work in a different way. To keep this blog on topic, I started one for my AION adventures in brokering. If you are interested in the things I learn and discover in AION check out My AION Broker blog.

In wow, I feel like I know what I am talking about. AION, not so much. But I'll talk anyway.

400G-500G an hour farming fire.

I revisited an old farming spot of mine to see what kind of gold per hour it still generates. It's that cave in storm peaks I mentioned a long time ago to farm eternal fire. Here are my results after a 20 min farming session.

35x Crystallized Fire (20G an eternal)
30.5G worth of vendor greys
3 Greens that DE into 2xGreater cosmic Essence and a Dream Shard

So that was 150G in 20 min. If we expand that out to an hour, that's over 400G an hour. If you take your time and sell those as crystallized you can get 3g each instead of 2g (as an eternal). Doing that would bump it up to 500g an hour of farming time.

I farm these in a cave in storm peaks. It is in the upper left corner of the map. You see 2 caves. One is full of mobs that drop fire and the other they drop air.

Big leather purchase

I checked the price of leather on the AH and it was dirt cheap. The price normally sits 50 silver each or more recently. When I checked today, I saw it at 30 silver each on up. I picked up every piece under 46 silver. 1164 pieces of it or 58 stacks. I converted it to heavy and got 194 Heavy leather. I paid 464G for all of it, so it works out to 40 silver a piece or 2.4g per heavy leather.

I also paid 146G for 40 eternal shadow so that makes it 3.65g each. More than I need at the moment, but I will use them eventualy and the price was right.

So my favorite thing to make are dream shards. At these prices I can make one for 11.44g. I am selling them on the ah for 19g each. So that is 7.4g profit on each one I sell. That is 60% profit.

Heavy Borean Armor Kit takes 10g worth of leather and sells for over 30g. I see it listed at 39g today, but with that much mark up it will not stay that high.

So if I only made Dream Shards, I should be able to get 48 of them out of this batch for a total cost of 550. As Dream Shards, I should be able to sell them for 912G.

If I only made the armor kits, the sales should be 1440g or more. I do a healthy mix of both. I can move the shards in greater volume and I know that market better.

Scan for DE when you can

I spent 300g on greens to DE off the AH. After a quick De sessions I ended up with 54 infinite dust (4.4G), 11 Greater cosmic Essences (15G), and 2 Dreamshards (20g). So that generated 442G worth of mats for 142G profit. This market is usualy highly picked over. I ran the same scan 4 hours before and only picked up 3 items.

I did it again a few hours later. I spent 136G on 18 items. 40, 12, 5. The results was 47 Dust, 4.6 Essences, and one Dream Shard. With the same numbers as before, that gives me 295G worth of mats.

Sometimes I get very little, other times I fill my bags with items. It never hurts to check.

Getting Ink CoD

We were raiding last night and someone in the raid spent the night milling and inking. I tossed some questions his way to see what part of the inscription market he is in. It turns out its the Snowfall Ink market. With the price of them up, he farms herbs and sells the Snowfall. All his ink of the sea gets converted into snowfall.

We got a deal worked out where he sends me that ink of the sea directly now. First time I ever pulled this off. Only time will tell if it sticks. I have had many farmers set up to CoD stuff that stop after 2-3 batches. When I logged in today I had 30 stacks waiting for me.

I expect that is what he had in stock. I let him know I will use as much as he send me. Even if I don't bounce production back up to match it, rebuilding my stockpile of ink of the sea is never a bad thing.

I am not sure how I missed adding http://www.ah-whoring.com/ to my blog list. Sarainy has compiled a great shreadsheet that does the math on all the common tricks for each profession. Like many people, I have several spreadsheets for different things. Not many are my own, but some that the comunity has provided.

What Sarainy has is a single spreadsheet to replace them all. I have thought about doing it, but was doing good enough with all of my specialty spreadsheets. I was not quick to replace them but this has been good as I move into other markets. With all those other professions so handy, it makes it easy to use it for my other things.

The officers alt banker scam

Here is a scam someone tried to pull on us a while back. It's called the officers alt banker scam.

Someone takes a look at the guild roster so see who the top officers are. They then create an alt with a name like on of those but sounds like a banker or an auction character. Kevbank is the name they tried. They waited for me to log off or they did not see me online. They would whisper all the high ranking officers asking for an invite.

Once invited they would ask to be promoted for guild bank access. Once promoted they would withdraw as much as they could before someone figured it out. I think that's how the scam should work. Like I said, this is a scam someone tried to pull.

He failed for several reasons. Most officers knew who my banker was and that was not it. The average age of our members is higher then most guild so the words he used put him way younger. I don't use the word "dude" when talking to people. I was also on an out of guild alt that one officer knew about. So he sent me a whisper shortly after it was attempted. I was able to log onto my main and tell them it was not me if anyone had any questions.

I point this out as something you should mention to your officers. So they think twice when inviting and promoting that alt. I had a mega guild once get very mad at me because officers would keep inviting me in. The guild was so big that one set of officers would gkick me on the spot and another set would invite me with out knowing they shouldn't.

Buy Low and Sell High

We hear this a lot. Everyone tells you that's what you do to make gold. So how do you know when something is low and something is high? It is much easier if its something you buy for yourself. If I run to the AH to get a belt buckel and the price looks a little high, I do the math on the mats. I did this one time and the price was way over priced. More than double the price of the mats. While I did need one now, it showed me that it is something that I should be selling.

I picked up a few stacks of the mats, found someone to craft them, and resold them in a few days while the market was up. Some things like this are just a good market. If I was a blacksmith, I would have stayed in it.

The other day I needed a epic gem. When I checked the AH, none were listed raw. So I posted a few I had at a price that averaged the cut gems. A good 50-60G markup over what I prabably picked the gem up for.

If you were paying attention a moment ago, I said I needed a epic gem but I had some to post. I buy stuff I will need later when I see its price low ahead of time. I knew I would prabably use the gem I had, but still felt I should check the AH for a cheaper one.

If I don't have the item I need, I will do the math on the raw mats and use them if it will save me gold. I know if I take everything with me to our raid, someone there can make whatever I need that I cannot make. If I am expecting to get a piece of gear, I will try to take those mats with me. When I got my T9.25 helm, it was in the middle of the raid. I had all the mats on me to gem it.

Even though I have more gold than I could ever spend, I still have a hard time overpaying for stuff. If I have to have it I will spend the gold, but saving 20G from buying smart is as good as a 20G sale.

Creature of habit

I am very much a creature of habit or I run on auto pilot sometimes. There are times when I am driving someplace and the destination takes the same path that I take to work. I will catch myself trying to finish the route to work and almost miss the path to my target destination. I eat at the same place almost every day. It's a fast food place 1/2 block from work. I also refill my drink as I leave every time.

Today I walked out the door and could not remember if I just filled up my drink or not. I look at the drink and it is full so I must have done that. Then I remember that I did the exact same thing the day before. So I let my mind wonder about other time I have done that or other things I do that with.

A few weeks ago, that was how I ran my glyphs. Total auto pilot. I ran a tight schedule for so long that it became part of my day. Next thing I knew every thing I did to make glyphs was mindless and just doing the motions. I am off that schedule now but I could easily fall back into it. That had a big part to play in how I could keep such a big glyph opperation going for so long.

I remember talking about it to my wife about what I was doing. I basicly said I was spending more time doing this than anyone else possibly could. A good deal of the time was 1/2 afk.

Abyssal Shatter Profit Calculation

WoWenomics just posted some Abyssal Shatter Test Results. I wish I knew the abyssal crystal market better so I could do some solid math on it. So I have no clue if they are profitable to shatter on my server. But I do know the cost of the other mats and can guess the break even point.

Using the numbers over at WoWenomics, I came up with this calculation.

ID * 9.79 * .3047 + CE * 2.99 * .6953 = Abyssal break even value

For ID, CE, and Abyssal use the market price for the item. Infinite dust is 4.5g, Cosmic Essence is 15g, and I do not know the Abyssal crystal price. If I put those numbers in to the equation, it puts my abyssal crystal value at 44.6G. That sounds very close to what I think it should be.

If you get GE from the shatter, its average value is 44.85g. If you get ID from the shatter, its average value is 44.06g. I found that very interesting that it balanced that well.

Remember these values are per per server. So plug your values into the calculation for yourself.

Why do glyphs fallback?

In a market where QA dominates the undercutting, why do we ever see any glyphs post at fall back prices? I am not talking about when you reset a glyph. I know why that happens. It's all those other ones.

I know I have very close to full coverage (I am 9 glyphs from having them all). I know not all my competition has every one of them, but there are enough players that everything is covered by several posters. With me posting as hard as I am, and them posting as hard as they are, how can glyphs randomly post at fall back prices with that much coverage?

This is a side effect of QA and heavy undercutting with long posting periods. As the price gets lower and lower, eventually it reaches the point where only one person is willing to post at that price. To QA, this glyph is now under the threshold for everyone else. QA will now skip this glyphs until the price goes back up. Either the low priced ones get purchased or they expire. If they expire, every glyph that was above that one will expire first.

This glyph becomes that last one. It holds everyone out of posting that glyphs until it disappears. Once it is gone from the AH, the next person is open to post at whatever price they want. Someone who works hard to reset the price of glyphs will see this loner and reset the market. But those people don't take the time at every posting to do that.

The colors on the left indicate the value of the glyph. Red is near cost, orange is minimal profit, and green is all the mark up. Everyone undercuts in the green area, few will do so in the orange. This will cause many glyphs to cycle in price over and over. The worse the glyph is, the more often the glyph will cycle like this.

Buyers will bring some stability to glyphs and slow the cycle. Also someone liquidating leveling glyphs (they are not using QA anyway) will hold those down longer. But there are several lukewarm glyphs from research and books that will do this.

I do not expect every server to see this. For the longest time, I was the main cause of this effect on my server. Some things like this I don't do as aggressively anymore. But it was a nice way to passively reset the glyph market when I did do that. All it takes is one person to post by hand or use some other logic to post glyphs with and that cycle can be interrupted.

DKP: Under Bidding

In our bid system for loot we have a rule where the high bidder is charged the least amount it would take to win the item. So if you over bid the 2nd person by a landslide, you are only charged 1 point more than the 2nd highest bid.

When I picked up my Trophy of the Crusades I had a good deal of data to work with. This drops 5 times a raid and its easy to get a feel for the trend of an item when it drops that often and so many people need it. In a bid system, the cost reflects supply and demand. The same people that need the first 2-3 trophies will need the last 4-5 of the night. Except for the people that won already. Many people will not bid on the 1st to see what it goes for.

Here is how the night played out that I picked up 2 in the same run.

I bid 50 on the first drop and it was won for 51 points. This tells everyone that someone bid 50 for it. That first person could have dropped over 9 thousand on it and still would have got it for 51 points. I think about things like this. When the 2nd one dropped, I know someone else knew someone bid 50 for it. People hate to see things go cheap to someone else. They can either bid to win it and give the other person a chance to get it much cheaper later. Leaving them with points they can spend over you on something else.

Or they can under bid you to make you spend the most possible. If someone were to bid 49, then that other person would have to spend the full 50 points to get it. He would get no discount like he would if it was uncontested. Can anyone guess what I bid the 2nd time? Knowing that someone was likely to bid 49 to hold that bid of 50 up, I bid 48 instead.

That item was won for 49 points. They easily could have bid 51 or 50, I have no way to know that. But if he was trying to play a game with my points I was able to dodge it. On the 3rd and 4th drop, I bid 47 points and won it for 41.

By watching and playing with the bids on the first 2 drops, I was able to save 16 or more points. I never bid more than I am willing to spend on an item. So its not the same as bidding 1 under someone else on an item that I don't want. If we catch people doing that we will take action. But dipping my bid a little bit to make someone else pay for it first is fair game. I will get it or someone else will get it. How soon and for how much is still up to me.

Selling more Vender Items

So, I think there is a market for vender items. A few days ago I sold 3 rune thread for 8g to the same person. Someone asked me why I sell these things. I to it for the laugh. It puts a huge smile on my face. Here are some sales that have me laughing.

Green Dye, 2xRune Thread, Blacksmith Hammer, and a Weak Flux.

These sales just don't stop. I figured it was a one time thing. Kind of a fluke. Here are some other things I sold.

Simple Flour 3g, 3xCoal 1g, and 3xRune Thread 5g (people are under cutting me now) are not pictured. I got tired of clipping the shots and posting them. I think that rune thread sells better than some of my glyphs. Thats 8 rune thread that I have sold in the AH this week.

Hacked: the Authenticator

After my personal experience of getting my account comprimised I decided its time to become an advicate of the Blizzard Authenticator. I am one of those computer guys that has no spyware issues, knows how to spot keyloggers before hand, and has a strong password. I am the perfect example of the "it will never happen to me".

This is not the first time we have had a guild member get an account hacked. I don't recal it ever happening to another officer. But my hack got everyone's attention. Partialy because of all the stuff and gold involved, but also because I'm one of the last people they ever expected to get hacked.

Our guild now requires all officers to have an authenticator. Anyone that can invite must have one. Officers usualy have a higher allowance to take stuff out of guild banks. When that cap is reached, sometimes its possible to invite a character and promote them up for bank access.

A close friend of mine maintains a small guild on the side also put this rule into place. So if you are reading this now and you don't have one, it is time to go get one.

I realize I have not reported on how my gold is going it a while. The last few weeks really took me out of the game with all the stuff I had going on. Today I finally feel like I am back into it. I do need to make headway into a few markets I was in before. How about we start with a count of the gold.

133,000 in the guild fund and another 11,758 on my characters.

My expenses have been a little higher with the amount of gear I have been getting in raids. I decided to make my 2nd spec shadow and have started maintaining that gear like it was my main set. Full enchants and gems the same day I get it (or before the next raid).

My big investment just before my account hack was Tankard O' terror. I paid 600G each for 23 of them and some how ended up with only 18 after the recovery. If I just eat that cost, it puts my price per tankard at 766G each for a total investment of 13,800g.

Herb prices have been high so I have invested a bit of gold to keep them up. When the market gets dry, I push it up harder. I know I have the inventory to hold out when I do that. My Snowfall buyer got a good deal this week, except that I was not able to produce all that much ink for him.

I just used 46 stacks of ink to craft my glyphs. So it looks like I am getting my rhythm back with the glyphs.

DKP: Trophy of the Crusade

I saw some interesting things with Trophy of the Crusade in our bid system. This item was highly under valued to most people in my opinion. We had one person blow everything on the first one we had drop. He second guessed the purchase over vent. Lets say he spent 100 points to keep the math in here simple. That's about 5 weeks worth of saved points after decay.

He had no emblems and spent everything on this token he could not use for a while. The next one went for 20 points, that's 20% of the value of the first trophy. The other people that won the next few were people that didn't have many points. Some of those purchases were questionable. "Are you really going to let him take that" and my response was that they should have spent more points if it was worth that much. But that's issue for another time.

I sat down and did the math. For the people that only did 25 man raids, they would get 15 emblems per week. In 4 weeks, everyone would have enough to turn in a trophy. Before that point nobody needed a trophy because they could not turn it in. At the prices they saw, they could pick them up when needed and save points for serious items.

Only 5 trophies drop per week. So after 5 weeks, the guild would see 25 trophies. Just a moment ago I said everyone would need a trophy in 4 weeks. So we get badges at a rate faster than trophies. Close to that 4-5 week mark, everyone will be looking to get a trophy. Demand will increase.

I picked up as many of those as fast as I could. I was able to get the 3rd and 4th trophy before I had the emblems to turn in the 3rd. I end up saving a lot of points that way. I was telling people that the price was about to go up but they held off waiting for them to go down more. I picked up my last 2 in the same raid back to back for 41 points each.

Last night I turned in my 4th trophy and the value of them was +80 points each. And everyone is talking about how much they want one.

Access to more emblems in 10 man normal and heroic was also a factor. I think some people spent them for the T9 and other items. The T9.25 pieces are all they have left to spent them on now. I was able to pick the price I wanted to pay. I bid just low enough to conserve points and pick them up when the price was right. When they were going for 1 point over my bid, I knew I was in that target price. Now the people that want one almost have to max bid to get it.

Getting back into things

I am getting back into making gold again. I am going to try and expand out from my usual tricks. I want to be one of those people that only works the ah for 30 min a day and still manages to make gold. I don't think I am near as efficient as I should be.

I'm going to step down as the guys that controls the glyph market. I put in my time and I made my gold. I am not walking away from it as much as cutting the amount of time I devote to it. One way is to not sell as many cheap glyphs. So I am going to raise my threshold a little bit. Everyone else can battle out at the bottom. But I will be there on the glyphs that can't be held down or when the prices bounce up or gets reset.

One of the big advantages I had with glyphs was time and patience. I had several things pop up the last 2 weeks that pulled me away from the AH when I would normally be posting and reposting. I just did not have the time. Now that I am getting some of that time back, I think I want to devote it to new areas of the AH. Try and make each chunk of time dedicated to something different, other than just relisting glyphs.

After a few weeks, I will know what is and is not working. I can make some adjustments from that. I am also going to change how much information I give about the things I am working. I love to share information but it also introduces those things to my competition. It makes it hard to tell you how well it worked when I spoiled my results by sharing the information too soon.

When I discover a new market, I will toss it into the queue about 3 weeks out. When I see it publish, I will follow it up with my results.

WTS Rune Thread 8G, pst

I have been selling parchment for a while. I mentioned it once and I saw where the Greedy Goblin started to do the same. For a while he posted pictured of idiots buying them that people sent in and he finally had to tell people to stop sending them. I started to sell other items that all the vendors sell.

I can understand some of them that people buy, they just don't know a vendor sells it. How many people can honestly say they do not know rune thread is a vendor item. This guy wanted them so bad that he picked up 2 of them.

I am kind of speechless.

Update: I just checked another character and saw this. Same guy picked up a 3rd one.

Hacked: How does it feel?

It took a little bit for it to click that I was hacked. I could tell something was strange with my account and within a few seconds of my character loading in game I knew what had happen.

My heart stopped. I didn't know what to think. At first I was thinking about all that gold I lost. About all the time I put into gathering it. Same for my investments. I was shocked as I looked at everything that was missing. Once I got to my main, I could care less about the gold.

I was disappointed at the shape my raider was in. That was the one important thing in this game to me. The other is the impact it will have on the other raiders from the stuff taken from the guild bank. It puts a big damper on my reason to play the game.

It made me feel a little lost.

I decided not to get mad about it. Someone hit the jackpot with my account. But I expect they have cleaned out many accounts before mine. I was just another score and life will go on. I hate to think someone targeted me. For as much as I give back to people, it would hurt to think one of my readers did it.

I was a little embarrassed about it for two reasons. One that I am a computer guy that know his stuff. I should have been able to spot this before it happened. I now had to admit to everyone that I was hacked. The other is that I already had the authenticator in my pocket. I never took the time to set it up.

I was a little frustrated that battle.net makes me use a email for login and a weak password (by my standards). This has frustrated me before, but more so now. I could just be looking for someone to blame other than myself.

I have faith in Blizzard. I expect that this is an issue they deal with all the time. They are smart enough to have ways to recover accounts. I reported this within 4 hours and did not make any trade/gold/auction house transactions. I expect I will not get everything back like I would want but I will be thankful for what I do get.

I was dreading a long recovery. I did immediately opened a ticket, but could only stay online for so long. So this was how I was feeling that first day before I even talked to a GM that evening. What a long day that was.

Hacked: How could this happen to me?

I keep playing this over and over in my mind. How did this happen to me?

I don't truly know how this happened. My only guess is that I reused the same password too much. I have several strong passwords but once I switched over to battle.net, I could not longer use them. So I fell back on my more generic password I use for web stuff. And now that battle.net makes your account name your email address, all they need to figure out is the password.

This password is still strong, just not as strong as the others. It is unguessable and immune to dictionary attacks. To crack the actual password a computer would have to fall back on trying every combination possible. So someone had to grab the password. This leaves a website leak or keylogger.

If it was anyone else, I would say keylogger. That is why I do not share my account with people. I can trust myself not to fall for a keylogger, just not anyone else. I am a true computer person. I am usually the person people talk to that removes the really hard to get spyware. I teach people how to avoid it and what to watch for. My computers are clean of any spyware. The one time I thought I got infected ( I saw media player pop out of some pop ups and crash), I Just rebuild the computer.

This brings me back to other websites. I am not going to get into pointing at sites here, but there are 2 that come to mind. Places where I recently registered and in the last few day made some posts about making gold. I would expect one of those sites has a backdoor and is leaking information. I don't think the people running them would dare to do something like that.

It is also possible that my new visibility on those othe forums prompted someone to dig deeper into other sites I have registered with. One of those could easily be running out of date forum software that someone recently discovered a hack for.

The thing is I already had an authenticator in my pocket. I was not in any rush to set if up because I figured it would never happen to me. I figured wrong.

Update: I got thinking about what Blizzard would be looking at on my account. One thing would be account sharing. I don't do that, but logging in from ip addresses in different geolocations came to mind. And it just so happens that I was out of town a week ago. One night I used the computer of a relative that had so much spyware on it the computer that I wanted to pull my hair out waiting for it. So may toolbars in IE. I ended up installing firefox. I made a post on the guild website that I would miss the raid and I trolled the Blizzard forums a bit. Just as I am over confident that I do not have a key logger on my computers, I am over confident that my relative's computer has several of them.

Hacked: The true value of things

That was a lot to take in. It gives you a chance to think about what things are truly worth. The trinkets and the weapon on my main were the hardest to get. My pally that I never played was raid ready as dps/heals/tank as needed. My priest was solid heals or dps as needed. I felt like I had a good polish on his gear.

The gear on my alts missing maked it a pain to play them while my account is restored. That is the logical thing to do. I will had to rebuild my guilds and specialty bags that all the characters had. The gold at first felt like a loss, but it really the least valuable thing I had to me.

All is not lost. All of my professions are were good (and my months of inscription research). So all the tricks I used to make the gold I had were still available to me. Of the 10 chars on my account the last 2 where my glyph posting alts. They did take the time to clear out the other 2 glyph sellers higher on the list, the only things these guys had were glyphs. I think because the vendor value is so low and they spend so much time on my account so far, that they just left them. These 2 alts contained the glyphs that make me gold.

They also did not cancel my glyph auctions. I only checked the one glyph alt and he had 600 auctions still up. I did the math and it would have taken them 12 min of mailbox time to collect those. So the glyphs where not worth their time. I am glad they have such a low vendor value.

Hacked: What was recovered?

Everything I needed was recovered. I am still sorting out all the stuff I got back. But from looking at the list of things, All my gear was recovered and a good deal of mats. I do have some questions for them about my one guild banks that got disbanded and item related to that. Mostly because it had all my gold on it. I got my wish and got my things back. I was more than willing to walk away from the gold and start over if I got that much back.

They did give me a detailed list of the items recovered. Before you read over it, I do want to say I dont do very good housekeeping. So there is a good deal of junk in there I should have cleaned out a long time ago.

Update 1: I contacted them and they are still looking into my gold. The email they sent made it sound like they were done and this was it. They told me that dealing with such a large gold amount does take longer.

Update 2: 2 more characters were restored so I added them to the post. I also got 108,000 gold back that was on one of my guild banks. Our GM was also mailed the 5,000g that was taken from my raiding guild. I beleive the recovery is over now. Thank you Blizzard.

Lots of idiots this week

This week I dealt with a very high number of idiots. They must travel together.

I got my first hate tells this week from someone that was furious with me over crashing the glyph market. I have been at this for 3 months now. I even took a partial break last week because I was out of town. I don't know what prompted this all of a sudden.

I was trying to buy something in trade. I clearly posted my 600g price in the trade spam. This person whispered me they had one for me. I invited them to group and they said 1000G. I said 600g again and they yell at me they would not sell it to me for 10,000g. I was curious as to what set him off. He was mad I drove the prices down. You can read that conversation for yourself.

I sold 3 parchments to the same guy on the AH. That brings my parchment sales up to 6 for the week. I can't decide if I should raise the price to get more out of the sales, or drop the price to get more sales.

I was buying things in trade for 600G each. Someone responded that they have one for me and the trade chat comment under his whisper was someone else buying the same thing for 700G. I thought I was going to miss the buy but this guy tossed me an invite and sold it to me. I don't think he ever saw it.

Also had some guild drama that I would love to share, but I don't think this is the place for it. Basically we demoted a long time member to social and they ended up canceling their account over it. It was just a guild rank change and they put more value on it then we did.

Update1: I have to add myself to this list. I already had this post in the queue before this hapened. I picked up a Blizzard Authenticator not that long ago and never activated it. Someone got my password and cleaned out everything on my characters.

Update2: I had an issue with my screen shot. Can't decide if its the preview messing it up so it posts and still looks like crap, I will rehost the image someplace.

Hacked: From Ritches to Rags

Thank you for all the encouraging words. It is good to hear that people usually get every thing back. My ticket is still open. Everyone on my server is saying that tickets are taking forever to get handled these last few days. So I wait patiently for a GM to talk to me.

It was strange my first day as a broke person. I did not do any gold transactions. I had a few auctions that sold sitting in my mailbox from after the hack. I had too many glyphs up for them to cancel. I wanted to make sure there was a nice clean break in whatever logs they looked at. Make it easy for them the help me.

After the initial shock was gone, I am fairly light hearted about it. With my guild I have to be able to laugh about it and we did. They even let me raid on my 1/2 nude character. We had fun with it. I told the officers and word spread a bit about what happened but not everyone really knew the details.

We started the raid night on Anub (we left him up the night before so people would show up the next day). They had me in and out of the group several times as we set up who was going. I had almost nothing, so I should not be there right. Well someone had a bad connection so I ended up in the raid. We joked about my situation lightly. We were buffing to pull and someone mentioned to me that I still have my lance equipped.

I made the comment "Its all I have, did you guys even inspect my gear". All of vent was in laughter over it. I had emblem and honor pieces with my lance equipped. T9.25 shoulder, gloves, pants. T8 helm and chest. some pvp pieces. So I was raiding with 7 empty gear slots.

I felt good that I was able to pull 1,800 dps with my low 1500 spellpower, no hit, and small mana pool. I got to be 3rd heal in a 10 ToC later last night. I could swap specs and not change gear.

Another funny moment came when we were headed to Ony 25 after the raid. I got on my pally that had a solid set of PvP gear from a few seasons ago. Well, he was still missing 8 pieces of gear. Anyway, I was stuck in org and figured I would wait for a summon. When summons started, a person made the comment about all the people too lazy to fly down. I responded with "Some of us can't afford the flight".

Everyone has beed a great sport about it. My ticket has been esclated now and I have an authenticator active.

Hacked: What if it was all gone?

How would you handle it if your account was hacked? You log in to find your character guildless, nude, without bags, emblems, or gold. You check all your other characters and find the same thing. Your personal guild banks are disbanded or empty.

It is an interesting experience as I just found out yesterday. I log into wow to do my quick ah posts of the morning and my pally is wearing that flaming skull helm from the Haloween boss in SM and is in a set of armor that matches. This is from the character select screen and its just strange. I highlight my priest and his gear looks a little off and he has the lance equipped.

I selected my pally and logged in. I was wondering if I was dpsing in the wrong set last night. I don't pally him much and used the equipment manager to get his gear last night. But I remember my dps was good. It still has not clicked with me what happened as I wait for Dalaran to load. It could just be a display bug.

I get into the game and pull up the character screen to find him in that helm and in my PvP gear. I for a moment thought it was someone playing a trick on me, but nobody else has that account info. I looked to my bags and I had none, just a hearthstone in the backpack. It was at that point it started to sink in. I checked my guild tab to see that I was not in one.

My first though was my main personal bank. I logged in to my scribe and he was also without bags and a guild. But wait, he was not the GM. I logged in my GM of that guild and he was also without a guild. That was a 5 tab bank with over 100,000G on it. One tab was full of herbs to be milled. When I am in high production, I use all 5 tabs but at the moment only had stuff in 2 of them.

I bounced to another banker of mine and he also lost his guild. That was a 3 tab bank containing about 22 Tankard's of Terror. I usually keep my long term investments in there but at this time it was fairly empty of anything worth much. A handful of epic gems, a few flasks, and probably 60 netherweave bags.

I jumped to my last banker with a guild and he still had it but it was empty. Both tabs were full of stuff. One was all ink of the sea stacks and the other was mostly bolts of netherweave. I had a little bit of the expensive cloths and mats for more cooldowns.

I got onto my main so see what was left. Any gear that could be sold was sold. I did have several tier pieces left. I was sitting at 2700 spellpower as shadow last night and had 1200 today. The gear on this character is the most important to me as he is my raider. wow-heroes had me ranked 2-3rd in the guild and 8-10 on the realm as a healer. My shadow rank was high among shadow priests, but that was mostly do to my healing pieces in the mix. Everything max gems and enchants. I had a trophy and was close to getting the emblems for my 4th t9.25 piece.

Then I thought about the guild's bank. I was an officer rank on 2 characters so they were able to take anything of value and another 10,000G. We were just starting to hand out crusader orbs to guild members. (We sold them as we got them and then restocked recently when the prices dropped). I hate how this is going to impact others.

Does your gold per hour add up

We all know there are several way to make gold in wow. It is very easy for us to latch onto one thing and get stuck on it. It is also easy for us to over work that one thing. We do that because we are still making gold. We don't pay attention to how much extra time we spend to make that extra little bit of gold. Time that could be better spent making more gold doing other things.

I mad this quick little chart to illustrate my point.

Someone could be making a killing working the AH. The gold per hour is great at first but as the day goes on and you have picked all the easy profits, you have to work harder to make more gold. The real profits were made when you first started.

Another person could just farm constantly. The gold per hour is no place close to that person working the AH when they start. But as time goes on there is a point where the farmer is making more gold in the same time as the person camping the AH.

You can make the best out of this by starting with the items that make the most gold per hour and knowing when to switch to something else. You may feel like you are doing nothing and making gold while you camp the AH but if you went out and did something your profits would greatly increase.

Get someone to snatch for you

I have some friends and guildies that also work the AH. We focus on different markets and work the AH at different times. I have one set up to snatch a few items for me because he is on a totally different schedule than I am. He just sends it COD to me at a set price.

Any time that item dips lower than my price he will make a profit on selling it to me. These are items that I buy like mad so having a 2nd person buying for me can only help. It also keeps it out of everyone elses hands.

Inscription bags

Telburn just dropped a hot tip as a comment to one of my posts.

Inscription bags are a hot item at the moment. If you have some leather sitting on your leatherworker make up a batch of these. Normally inscription bags sell for less than the mats (the 2-3 times I ever looked at them) because they are a skill up item.

With the new guide posted on MMO-Champions, people are picking these up to jump start inscription. Remember the names of these people that buy 2-4 at a time from you. Add them to your friends list now. They are either the main or alt of one of the new players on your server.

The rush of new players

It looks like we should be expecting a rush of new players to the glyph market soon. The Greedy Goblin gave some step by step screen shots that produced a few. Not it looks like mmo-champion just released a guide. This new guide will reach a much larger group of people that will understand it less.

The think this new group of people are going to focus on are how much they made the first day and how fast they sold glyphs. If you can poison those things from the start they will not last long at all.

If someone jumps into the market and has a huge day the first day, it will stick with them for a long time. That is what drives them to stick it out when the market turns down. Looking at the results I had before, I would last weeks on break even profits and not think twice about it.

If they shoot for full coverage of all glyphs, they will get several sales that first hour. That is so exciting. The higher the buy out the more the excitement. Nothing better than looking at big sales before you even log out.

How do you poison those experiences? Help the good glyphs crash and deep undercut them when you see a new name post on them. Then reset the crappy glyphs that you can.

First impressions matter. What they see in the market this first time will last. If you crash the good glyphs, they will think they are worthless. If you reset the crap ones, they will be so excited to list some so high and they will curse the market when they fall back down.

I had a few leveling glyphs sell at fall back prices when I first got started and I got very attached to them. It took me a while to break out of thinking they were some how worth more than the others.

I am sitting good on my server. Competition is already fierce so it is a great time for them to come and play. My ideas are all theory craft and I don't plan on trying any of them. But it was interesting to think about.

Update: I wrote this before the guide was out but now that I see its up I have a few comments.

That threshold is way to high for my server. Even the lower one to drive out competition is not low enough to drive out competition on my server. I'm going to treat these guys just like all the other noobs that get QA for the first time.

I expect the market to dip a little for a few days and then back to normal for me. Good luck on your server.

Strange thing today

For the first time in a long time there were only 2471 glyphs on the AH after I finished posting. This was hovering in the 5000 range for a long time. I have 995 of them on the AH. So that puts 40% of them as my glyphs. Whats even stranger is that I raised my threshold up a gold this week so I posted less than I usually do.

I started buying herbs again because my stock of ink is getting low. The market felt a little dry but I was still able to pick up enough herbs at the prices I like.

No maintanance?

Normally I don't even log into wow the morning of server maintenance. They even told us it was more than a server reset. So I did a full posting of glyphs. I am writing this post as I check things. Because the server is still up my sales for glyphs are still rolling in. From midnight last night to now I have 669G in glyph sales.

Looking at my usual buys found me 27 stacks of herbs under market value. A new farmer (I hope) sent me 24 stacks of herbs COD. Tankard of terror almost fall off the AH. All the auctions that were up had expired during the night. So I flooded the market with what I had. I did over price them but just having a large number on the ah is what I was going for.

Thanks for the hot tip over at JMTC. These things are a limited time item thats BOE and ilvl 226. At the moment the market is flooded with these things. I am able to pick them up very cheap in trade.

This is my next big investment. I'll give an update on how many I have once I end my buying spree.

Keyword: crash glyph market

To crash the glyph market is to drive the price down so low that nobody wants to work the market. There are 2 ways to normaly do this. Post everything at a set price or deep undercutting. The lower you can go the better your results will be. But is its important that you must be getting your mats cheaper then your competition.

If your set price is dirt cheap and most glyphs sell for huge mark up, you will find your competition buying out to relist. I never do it this way. You would need to camp the AH and quickly replace any that got sold. This way only realy works if they undercut you or you have 100% uptime and prevent them from getting sales. I find that hard to do for any normal player.

The other way is deep undercuts. If your competition reposts several times a day, this will work wonders. If you undercut 1G every time you post, then the harder the two of you work then the faster the prices fall. If you post 5 times a day at 1G undercut, after 10 days even the most profitable glyph is dirt cheap.

If you are willing to crash the market, you need to be willing to survive of minimal profits. I would not post at a loss but I can go very low. This is why you need dirt cheap mats. If you move the market down to where profit is minimal, then the lower you can drive your costs the better. So be very careful if you go after someone that already controls the market.

Most of the time I do not crash the market. Someone else does that for me and I have more reserves and cheaper ink than any of them. I do run with a high undercut so when competition pickes up, it naturaly lowers the price for me.

Stash that gold

One thing I used to do was stash all my gold in my bank alts guild bank. Every time I would pass a mail box on any one of my characters, I would send all but 100G to my bank alt. Every time I was on my bank alt, I would put all but 100G of his in the guild bank.

I was making gold at a fairly good rate like most people and like most people I was spending it just as fast. Getting that gold out of sight and out of mind slowed down how fast I spent it. It also limited how much I would spend at a time. Any major purchase would require me to relog onto my banker and withdraw the gold.

Once I started saving it away I also put goals on that gold. If I knew I was saving for a Nobles deck and needed 7,000G (at the time), I would have to think about that when I pulled the gold from that account. In the long run I spent less and reached my goal faster.

Now that I move lots of gold I do keep more gold on a few of my characters. I need quick gold to make bulk purchases some times. Those chars that buy stuff have about 2k gold on them. My main now keeps about 10K on him incase I want to buy loot from someone in a raid. Everyone else sits under 300-400G when I log them off.

Skillet over buying ink/parchment

Sometimes Skillet will not refresh the buy list when you visit a vendor. So it will re buy all the same mats it picked up the first time. Most of the time it is stuff you need, but you still have to manage it in your inventory.

If you mouse over the vendor buy button, it will pop up with the items it will buy. You should have a good idea if its close or way off. If you just purchased all but 10% of your items and you have to make a second trip. Pay close attention to that tool tip. If the full mat list is still there, it will buy the stuff you already got. It will do it in the same order as it did before.

So if you run out of gold, bag space, or what ever else and it does not finish. Take a second look at that tool tip for the next purchase.

Here is what I do to refresh it. Open up the skillet shopping list then mouse over it. If that window is open then the tool tip will refresh for me and the purchase will be correct.

I am not perfect

I do appreciate all the readers I have picked up from the start of the blog. I just wanted to remind everyone that this is my view of the market and ideas that I have tried. The way I work glyphs is my way. It may not be the best way or the perfect way, but it is how I do it. I do know I do some things different.

I am getting to that point where I may be reaching out to other markets. Markets where I don't have much experience. I am confident in my glyphs because I have solid results. When I started this blog, I talked about the ideas that worked and the ones that failed as I got into glyphs. I expect that I will make the same noob mistakes that many other people make in those new markets. In the end I will figure it out or walk away.

I mention that now because I may have some great ideas coming up on paper that sound very solid but are doomed to fail. So don't mistake the number of visitors that I have to indicate I know what I am talking about. Use your own judgement.

Picking new cuts

I am fairly new and inexperienced at the JC market. So remember that when you read anything I say about it. These are the things I do with it. They may be a huge mistake or I could be on the right track. One of the first things I had to deal with was picking a new cut.

You first need to know what your goal is. Are these cuts for yourself/friends or to make gold? One does not rule out the other but you usually end up giving on something. If its for you or your friend the choice is easier. Just pick the cuts you use the most and off you go.

If you are looking to make gold, different things need to be looked at. I started by looking at the cut gems that listed for the most. The mark up is higher to the profit is greater. How many sellers are listed? The more sellers, the more competition. So for my first few gems, I also looked at how many sellers and gems each had listed.

Now rule out any that look questionable to you. Is it a gem that someone would want. If you see one Tense Eye of Zul (10 hit/13 spell pen) for 250G its probably not going to sell. Who would buy that? This could turn out to be a very profitable gem. I have no idea. But for my first few gems, I want something that feels a little more useful.

As you start to pick up more and more cuts, try to get a few of the other colors. If you focus in one color of cuts too much its possible you will drive the cost up on them (from buying so many to cut and re-list). You will be set up much better if you give yourself that flexibility. If you end up prospecting later, you will end up with gems of all colors.

Reflections: Dream Shards

If you speculate on patch notes you will remember dream shards looked like a good investment. At the time the only thing they were used for were to learn new enchants. The upcoming patch notes said the existing enchants were going to be changed to use more of them. I bought them like mad and I advised my friends do to the same.

8.5-11G is what I paid for each one and I ended up with well over 300 shards. I think lots of people picked up on this and I know several blogs covered the idea. So after a huge spike on patch day the market crashed. The price settled at 13G. Not much of a profit. I decided that everyone had a huge stockpile and was watching the market.

I walked away for a few weeks. The new price was 15-16G each at this time so I would sell a few here and there. for the most part, I held onto my inventory.

The next patch came and it also should have increased shard prices with Ulduar release, Again people were thinking about shards and the prices stayed low. So gain I held onto most of my shards.

By now I was getting a little more aggressive in selling the shards. I would post them in stacks of 3 and 6 a little over market value. I could also catch the market when it would shift up. This didn't happen often and when it did, the market would crash by the end of the day.

About 3-4 weeks after the patch, the value of shards started to clime. Once they got up to 25-30G I started to liquidate what I had left. I still had 200 shards at this point and they ended up creating that huge profit I was looking for. It was just a few months later than I expected.

Thunderdome: 2 scribes enter, only one will leave

One common tactic in working the auction house is to drive your competition out. If they leave, you have it all to your self. The rewards can be huge if you do that and eventually become the major player. Sometime you have to drive off a major player and it could be more work than you think. People try to move into my glyphs all the time. It is a big market and no way can I control it all. Sometimes the market will crash and I wonder if someone is trying to drive me out or not.

So would it take to drive a player like me out of glyphs?

This can be harder than you think. Not all people play the glyph market like I do. When I moved in to the market someone was top dog and I don't see them any more. I see people that could have the potential to take the market, but I am already established. They would have made a lot of gold with out me here.

I have a stack of every glyph. That is a ton of inventory. If for some reason my competition won and I decided to leave the market, I am not going to let that inventory sit. All that would have to be sold. If I am exiting the market, the threshold is no longer an issue and the market could easily fall. My competition would have to wait that out.

I run the lowest threshold. well, almost. I see leveling glyphs way below cost and flooded all the time. In general my threshold is lower then everyone else's. It is still above what I think they pay for mats. Lats thing I want to do is post for less than it takes for them to make the glyphs. They would just crash the market and buy up my glyphs. It is still a profit for me but it adds time to myself and gives them a break.

I have the largest market coverage. I use 3 alts to post with and while I still need about 10-12 research glyphs, most people posting have not been doing it as long. Not many people track every glyph. If you were looking to drive me out, you need to cover all the glyphs I sell. Also be careful that I don't cover all the glyphs they sell.

I drive the prices down constantly. If you think driving the prices down is going to tick me off, think again. I run a 20-60 silver undercut. That pushes glyphs down fairly fast. The harder my competition works to undercut me, the faster the prices fall. The result is usually some part time players leave the market opening up the research glyphs to just me. Fewer people means more sales for me.

The thing with the lowest threshold is that my mats are cheaper. Sometime I have a farmer that sells to me direct. When I tell them I will take all you have, they are happy to give it to me. I can often get all 3 of the high yield herbs for the same price. I love buying lichbloom for the farmer price of adder's tongue. It is not very often that I resell it, but its extra profit when I do. I also check the AH several times a day for herb markets to crash or other farmers unloading under market price. I am probably a major factor keeping our herb prices stable.

I have a large stock of reserve herbs and ink. I have a 5 tab bank to hold my reserves when needed. It isn't full all the time but it is not uncommon for me to fill it with herbs when I catch 2-3 farmer dumps within a few days. I try hard to mill/ink it as quick as I can, but a few 120 stack purchases can take a while to melt. I also have a 2nd guild bank that holds reserve ink of the sea. On any given day I have 3000-6000 ink of the sea in the bank. This helps when herb prices are high or glyph demand spikes.

I have gold in reserve and fingers in other markets. If I ran out of all my inventory of glyphs and herbs and ink, and if my farmers disappeared, and if the herbs on the ah were way over priced, I would still have the gold to go toe to toe with anyone in the market. I have a 3 months head start on any new player to the market. Look at the advantage that gives me.

I am not saying that I cannot be beaten or that it is impossible. The odds are just in my favor. I have the time and the patience to go along with it. I read all the same sites and have access to all the same mods. I have access to all the same tricks. Its possible they learned everything from me. I am just saying that I will not be an easy target so they need to be prepared.

KTQ: on the fly flexibility

One thing I like my KTQ script for is the ability to make adjustments to what I need. If I build a queue and for whatever reason its not what I want, I can clear it and start over.

what if you only have 30 min of crafting time but enough items in your queue to last an hour. You could easily just make the the first 1/2 of the list and do the other 1/2 next time. There is nothing wrong with that. I just do it a little different.

I usually craft either the top valued glyphs or the ones that sold the most. With KTQ I can set a threshold high and do a crafting pass. This catches the ones with the highest profit. Then I drop the threshold and try to craft a half stack. This will pick up any that almost sold out. When I run each one, I can play with the threshold and stack size to get the queue size that I want.

No need to only craft 10 glyphs if that's all it adds to the queue. Just clear it, adjust the numbers, and do it again. I still do a full crafting session when I have time. This will catch anything else.

This helps me keep the ones in stock that matter most.

I do want to thank everyone for the thanks I have received for my KTQ mod. I know if it saved you as much work as it saved me then its a godsend. I wrote it because I saw one area of the system that took way too much manual work.

Many people are getting it to work with out any issues. But there are a good number of people that are having problems. My goal is to get it working with the common version of skillet that people already have (if that's possible). In the short term I will upload the exact version that I used to develop it for people that are dying to try it out.

With that said, I have not gotten much time to get back to this mod to work out the issues. Between work, the family, the dog, the raids, the guild drama, and camping the AH it is hard to find time to work on it. I have some real world issues that I am dealing with on top of it all.

This was a tool I could have kept to myself. But it has been very rewarding to see all the thank yous and stories about how it (and my blog) has helped you.

Bulk2Mail is actualy BulkMail2. I was just calling it the wrong thing for about a month. I don't know why I thought that was the name. That is an interesting way to mess it up. I knew I gave some details on this before but I'll take a moment to give the hilights.

The main reason I use this mod is that it allows me to auto mail stuff to alts. It lets you configure types of items to send to a character. You can either do item types like cloth/ore/enchant mats or set items like netherweave cloth. When you visit the mailbox, it will check your bags for stuff to send. One button allows you to just send it all. No mater how many items you have or how many targets you have, it is very quick.

This is great if you use one character to buy or snatch everything and send it off to various alts to craft it. You can even put the finished items into it so it gets sent to your main AH character.

I unloaded 20 stacks of lichbloom today. I buy adder/lich/icethorn when it dips under 20g a stack. Because lichbloom is normaly priced higher then that I try to save 1/2 a bank tab of it. I mill enough other herbs that I can let a little lichbloom collect dust. When the market price spikes I unload a little bit. I saw someone in trade dying to get some. I offered to sell at 35G a stack. He was shocked I had so much and asked how long it took me to farm it. I gladly told him I got it from a farmer.

So I made 300G profit on the deal by paying attention to trade. I also knew when the mats I had often jump in value. Most of the time I store my mats in either the most compact or final form as possible. Herbs get milled, leather gets made into heavy leather, and netherweave gets made into bolts. I also leave a little bit in raw form for situations like this. If I need them I will use them but most of the time you can only convert stuff one way.

If I do the math then 20 stacks of lichbloom will prabably make me over 800G as glyphs and snowfalls. But I have a large supply of ink, herbs and glyphs. The sell of those 20 stacks did not interupt my production so selling them gave me 700G I did not have. 700G that can buy me 35 stacks of herbs.

Discovering the epic gem market

I have to admit that I was very slow to jump onto epic gems. I had my hands full with inscription. I did level a JC a while back but have not done much with him. I have been slacking on doing my daily JC quests.

I had to take his tux off and get his gear back out of the bank. I just got my 4th token so it was time to pick a pattern. I went to the AH and did a QA summary scan. I saw a smooth kings amber listed at 230G with only 2 up. Raw I see this gem at 150G. So I buy one, go get the pattern, and cut it. Next morning its already sold for 225G.

I guess it has started. I am slowly discovering the epic gem market. I am going to take my profits and put them back into JC and see if I can get a large bankroll going with little investment. I hope I can take what I learned with inscription and apply it to epic gems.

Reflections: Things I tried before

At the moment I am working with lots of good ideas and big gold makers. I have focused on all the things that worked and have not taken many big risks. Before I found my grove, I would work on one big idea at a time. Some of them worked well and others not so well. Yet others I had the right idea but my timing was off.

So I am going to add a new occasional series called Reflections. These will be about past ideas and how they did or did not work out for me. A good deal of them are from interpreting patch notes. So the exact opportunity I was working on is not available but the ideas do repeat.

KevTool NoobDetector now on curse

I just moved KTND to curse. Curse gives me better statistics on how often it gets downloaded. It had a few small changed that the previous download did not have. Thunderfury is now in the word list. I also fixed a bug where it would report an extra time on some other player. And I changed the color of the text to yellow.

I am about to rework the word list. If you have any suggested word to add that are work safe, feel free to leave them in a comment. I am reviewing my original list and taking out stuff that is just to common. "lol" for example. I use that enough that it was inflating my noob percent so it has to go.

I did change the way noob counts are recorded. Before it just recorded if once if anything in the message was noob. Now it counts how many unique items there is in the list. So someone that is spewing garbage gets a much larger noob score.

My logic could be flawed, but here is how I calculate the noob percent. I take all messages and subtract all CAPSLOCK and repeating messages to get my valid messages count. I then divide my noob count by the valid messages and that's the result. If the valid messages are 0 I do something different. So people that spam noob in CAPSLOCK over and over will greatly inflate the noob score.

I hate to micro manage things. If I can think up a process or method to do something for me, I will do it. I removed myself from the details of my glyphs a while ago. I have configured 2 groups for posting glyphs. A single and a double ink group so I can manage the threshold differently. When I have to think about my costs then I just lump them all into the 2 ink + 50 silver group. That's simple.

I have QA to post everything at whatever price it wants to. I have KTQ to craft how ever much of anything it wants. I have auctioneer snatch to buy as many herbs as it wants. The only time I have to think is when I decide what alt gets what glyph. I know I could automate that too but I recently decided to make that a little more fluid.

My previous method was the light colored ones go to one alt, the red and pink to another, and everything else stays on the crafter. Its click by colors. Not much thinking but that's how I did it. I am looking to get out of the camper game and into the undercutting game, but while I am still camping I wanted to move my most profitable glyphs to a new alt with out much work.

I could mouse over every one to see the tooltip but I want to do something simpler. That's where my mod gets to save me yet again. I let it craft the better ones first and then move those to that alt. Then I return and craft everything else. I have 2 types of glyphs to move.

1) 10G or more glyphs. The glyphs with the high markup. Anything over 10G gets crafted first. All of those get moved over to that alt. I can adjust this value to give him more or less of my market. This sell with a huge profit so I want to stay on top of them

2) The sell-outs. The glyphs that just sell like mad. After my 2nd craft session, I move every new stack that has 10 or more glyphs to that alt. These move in high volume so I want to stay on top of them.

After a few nights of this the good glyphs all end up on that new alt. There are 2 advantages of this. First is the new name. All my other guys are on everyone else's friend lists. That is the camping game. This only works so long but it can catch them off guard. The other is all my best selling and high profit glyphs are on one char. I can work those glyphs harder and its OK if I let the others slide a little bit. I still keep coverage of them all, but the new guy will never miss a posting time.

Now if I have 5 min to slip in and post, I hit this one char and he took care of all the glyphs that matter. It is also more exciting to check his mailbox. The gold just flows in.

I was able to take the process of crafting glyphs with my KTQ mod and by playing with the threshold, I saved myself a ton of micro managing. I know eventually that char will get bloated with glyphs. But this process is simple enough that I can move everything off of him back to the other guys and start the process over the next day.

I spend more time camping the glyphs that make me the most gold but also have the ability to cover the rest of the market.

Contracting people to work markets (results)

A week ago I saw someone wanting about 1000g in trade. I got his professions from him and ended up sugesting that he makes Eternal Belt Buckles. I made him agree to pay me 10% of his proffits after a week.

A week later he made about 3000g so I made 300G. My next tip was to install LilSparky's Workshop. I did have him link black smithing to me and it looked like lilsparky showed several things that would turn a profit. I started to name off several things and decided to give him a real tip. Thats when I had him install that mod.

KTQ: Kev Tool Queue Tips

Like any command line mod, you can put commands in macros.

I have a group in place for gems. Several people manage the different colors differently. I would use a macro like this:

/ktq queue 5 solid sky saphire
/ktq queue 2 forest emerald
/ktq queue 3 monarch topaz
/ktq queue 6 scarlet ruby

Now looking at this, you can do the same thing for other professions.
/ktq queue 20 netherweave bag
/ktq queue 5 frostweave bag

Another feature it provides is adding bonus items for those that sell out. Its a simple feature and here is another way to do that.

/ktq queue 3 glyphs
/ktq queue 14 glyphs

It will queue up for items that you have less then 3 of and then it will do the same for a stack of 14. So the result is if something sells out, it will queue up 17 of them. If you have 1 it will queue up 15 for you.

Sometimes you make a sale that just shocks you. Then is shocks you even more that people do it over and over again. Abyss Crystals was a hot item for me before they started to crash. What I would do is post them in stacks of 6 with a 30% mark up and they would sell. Thats not a small purchase and I thought the exceptionaly high price on that would give people some pause.

This stuff does not happen every night. It could go weeks and I was not in a rush to sell them. One weekend I sold 3 stacks like that. It would be one thing if the stack of 6 was the only thing up, but that was not the case. Most of the time I see lots of single stacks still up when I go to collect my gold. It worked because I was the only one that ever posted a stack of 6.

A more recent one is parchment. It's not a big seller. I'm just more shocked that it sells at all. 4 times in the last 2 weeks I have sold a 50 silver parchment for 9G. This is like thread that you buy from a vender. I got a few screen shots of it.

To carpet bomb auction house is to post a wide spread of items. This is commonly used with glyphs and jems. The way it works is to take just a few of every glyph or every gem you can cut and post all of them on the AH.

I carpet bomb glyphs. I take 2 of every glyph I can make and post them all on the AH. I under cut every glyph by a set amount. Someone like me that carpet bombs are playing the numbers. We expect so may people to buy our item but with so many categories and options, you never know what ones will sell that day. So by posting a glyph of each type, I know I will get the next sell no mater what glyph is purchased. I will keep getting sells until someone undercuts me.

In a market where you are the only one carpet bombing, you will have huge rewards with a small time investment. If everyone else does the same thing, you will have to post more often. I carpet bomb around 5 times a day at key times.

Sometimes I will have 1200+ glyphs on the AH from carpet bombing it. The people that are the best at this use Auctioneer's batch posting or Quick Auction 2 to do it. I bet other mods can do it, these two are the ones I have used. I prefer QA for glyphs.

Buying Herbs for ink

Graylo posted a comment looking for a mod to help decide the cheapest way to get the inks off the AH at the current market price. I take a different look at this. I feel that if you are buying herbs of the AH on the spot to make your glyphs you are over paying for them. It would be best to get a farmer to send them to you or just buy the herbs when they are low.

I am a firm believer in having a large stock of ink of the sea. Keep 7 days worth of ink in stock when you can. It is a buffer between you and high prices. It also gives you the supply you need when demand spikes.

I only buy the northrend herbs and use the ink trader for the other ink. Snowfall ink can be an issue for many scribes. You need to decide on the bulk value of it. Just because I see it on the AH for 18G does not mean that I can sell 6 stacks of it for 18G. The market value is around 15G so I supply it to my buyer for 13G each. I know at that price he will buy every stack I send him. Even when the ah dips down to 12G (from me driving it down), he will still pick it up. I send him 3 stacks a day so he does not even have to look at the AH.

Because I can sell my snowfall ink, I prefer the high yield herbs like lichbloom/icethorn/adder's tongue (but at the right price, I will buy the others too). When I had a farmer I made it clear to him that all I wanted was the adders at a set price. I would take the other two herbs only if it was for the same price. As long as I took his entire inventory, he was happy to give it all to me for that price. I do the same on the AH. Lichbloom will usually sell for 50-100% more then the other two. But when it matches the others, I will buy it just as fast.

Instead of deciding how much my ink will cost me on the fly at current AH prices, I set how cheap I will get it a long time ago. I look at my inventory to decide if I am paying too much or not enough for it. Sometimes I will buy out the entire auction house because of a undercutting war or farmer flooding it. It can be intimidating to buy that much at once, but after you do it several times you get use to it.

I can easily go a week without buying herbs off the AH. I only do this when prices are too high and in that case, I do let my stock run low. That is exactly why I have it. I don't build that stockpile of ink so that I don't have to buy it but once a week. I am constantly buying it and it gives me the ability to only buy it when it is cheap.

I do use 30 stacks of ink a day on average (100 stacks of herbs). I have to have a huge stockpile. Even if you are small time, you can use that 7 day metric as how much you should have in stock. You would be able to use a much lower threshold then I do (unless someone like me buys it as much as I do). I would like to say I pay less than market price, but I'm one of the major players that holds market price for herbs where it is.

Featured Mod: Kev Tool Queue Features

The main feature of this mod is that it quickly queues up lots of items in a generic way for you to craft with skillet.

So the main command is "/KTQ QUEUE [NUMBER] [KEYWORD]"

So any item that partially matches that keyword will be added to the queue. I did start with 3 groups of items but later opened it up to any keyword search. The build in groups are GLYPHS, EPICGEMS, RAREGEMS. I know its silly to have a group called glyphs when the work glyph will work as a keyword and get them all. I already had that group in place before the keyword thing so I left it.

Because its a keyword match, it does a live check of your craft list. If you don't know it, it does not try to queue it. If blizzard adds something new, this should still work and pick up the new thing.

I do have other features built in to target the different ways people make glyphs. It can be set up to craft extra items when you run out. If you have 0 in stock, it can add 2 extra to the queue. It has a threshold feature that will allow it to check your recent Auctioneer scan and only craft items you find to be profitable. This works best with glyphs and gems where the mats for everything is basically a set cost.

It will also skip singles if you want. When I was making 14 at a time by hand, I would often just skip of the ones I needed to craft only one of. I craft them all now that its automated but it was an easy feature to add.

This should get you up to speed on what it can do. I'll give you power users some advanced tips later.

Armor Penetration Nerf in 3.2.2

This is something to watch. At the moment some classes are gearing armor penetration like mad. After that patch be ready for people to pull out that "just in case" gear they collected and get it enchanted. The real thing to watch here are the people that will re-gem.

I don't know the gem market but I can tell this will have an impact on it. Both cut and uncut gems will shoot up in demand the first days after the change.

Featured Mod: Kev Tool Queue

If you have tried to recreate some of the processes I do in my glyph factory I am sure you have ran into some of the same issues that I have. Building my queue of glyphs to make was one of the most repetitive and time consuming parts of the system. This mod made that step instant for me.

Kev Tool Queue (KTQ) will auto queue items that match a keyword into skillet. You tell it how many you want to have and it will check with altaholic to see how many you already have. It will then only craft the ones you need. It also has optional support for auctioneer to check prices and have it skip any item listed too low. You can use any keyword, but it has a few built in.

The beauty of this mod is its simplicity. It does have a few simple features that give it a lot of power. Here is a quick sample of the commands. I will be covering more features over the next few days and show you how to get more out of it.

Open up your tradeskill window in skillet and for inscription type this command:
/KTQ QUEUE 2 GLYPH

So the syntax is like this:
/KTQ QUEUE [number to queue] [keywork to match]

Gold Report

A quick review for the newer readers. I hit Professional Grand Master Inscription on 6-28-09. That was the point I took inscription seriously on the Auction House (I started working other markets shortly after that). That was about 10 weeks ago. The progress I made was huge. I would like to thank Greedy Goblin and Just My Two Copper Forums for showing me this market.

Today I had 95,000g in the guild vault. I tend to keep most my gold there. My main holds on to 12k gold in case I am ever in a raid and want to purchase a drop. There is about 6-7k gold combined on the other characters. They are each dedicated to different markets so have the gold to buy the stuff they usually buy in bulk.

I would love to count some of the gold I spent in my total but that would be cheating. I dropped 60k gold on the ToC crafted robe and bracers when I was told nobody could get them. I handed 20k as a gift to some friends and I sent 5k to my inactive 2nd account to keep it safe. That's 85k gold missing from my total.

So after 10 weeks of mostly inscription and a few other markets I have 113,500g to put me at 11.35k gold a week in savings. If I was to include the splurging of gold that number would be 198,500g (19.85G weekly income). If only I would have held onto that gold, I would have hit the gold cap in the next 2 weeks (3 months total).

I know I need to move from camping the AH to just undercutting it for 2 days but I look at that income and hate to mess with something that is working so well. I would bet that I would make more gold because I would spend just as much time. The big difference is how many more markets I could work. I have some very profitable ones just collecting mats because my scribe spends all his time milling/inking/glyphing.

Crafting Glyphs: Anything thats worth 10G method

The full stack method was one where every single glyph gets created and stashed in your inventory. A variation on that is to only craft stuff worth more then 10G (or whatever price you pick). This is a better choice when ink is in short supply. You need every sale to count and have little room for waste in your budget.

This is also a great system if you keep all your inventory on the AH. If you keep cycling it onto the ah, this will help you only craft the stuff you plan on posting. If you do the cancel/repost cycle on one char, you will probably use this method.

If you are lucky and on a server without a lot of undercutting going on. One where you can post once for 48 hours. This will shine for you. You would still use altaholic for the counts. To check prices with out having to search each one by hand, use the QA summary page or the little sparky workshop. Both will give you the price of every glyph in a list.

Featured Mod: Skillet_IStat

I know you guys are eager to see my new mod but here is another small mod that I picked up that should be released first. Skillet_IStat from TekNoir. He is retiring from the AH market so he thought it was time to share this. He has no plans to support it and that is where I come in.

The main feature I am looking at is the ability for it to query altaholic and put your item count into the name of the skill. So now you can just look at your skillet window and see how much you have of every item in stock. I hacked skillet to do that a while ago and didn't know how to make it a different mod like TekNoir did. He has some interfaces with other mods too, but the item count is huge for the way many inscriptioinists work with skillet.

I wanted to get this out first because it complements what my mod is intended to do. There are some people where I think my mod would be over kill and this mod would serve the needs they have.

Crafting Glyphs: Full Stack Method

I have seen many different ways that people use to decide what glyphs to craft. I plan to talk about the details of all the ones I can think of in later posts. I am going to start with the one I use and the one that is related the mod I wrote. I am posting about this before I talk about the mod so you understand the power of the mod a little better.

The full stack method is fairly simple. You don't have to make full stacks, any set number will work and it will depend on your market. I use a stack of 14. Some do 2-3 and others will do the full 20. The idea is you make a full stack and the next time you craft you fill that stack back up.

This way you are restocking inventory. It is very easy to see how many of an item you have and knowing how many you need to restock with. Altaholic is the mod I use to see item count. It is great to use even if you don't have any alts. After you crafted that next batch, every time you restock, you are making a glyph that sold. It is the backwards way to track sales but it works.

When you sit down to do your crafting, anything that has a full stack in your inventory is something that does not sell well. The number you craft shows you how well it did. All the single and double glyphs that you craft show you how many you sell by having a wide spread. Those are the strange spec or worthless glyphs that nobody buys very often. The more different glyphs you post then the more of these sells you will get.

The glyphs that you have to craft several of are your popular ones. If you ever have to craft a full stack, you know that you ran out of that item. This would be a good item to craft extras for. The more glyphs I craft, the more extra glyphs I craft. I bet I make 20% more of the item I sell out of. Let the stack size tell you whats going on.

If I craft every single glyph in my craft list. I can mindlessly just check the count on each one. Some glyphs sell for nothing and other for a bit more. There are also those few glyphs that you never know what price it will go for today. Those are the glyphs that get misses when you only craft the good sellers. When a glyph like that hits a dry spell, it falls out of sight and you are not there to get sales when it recovers. If you use the stack sizes, you are ready for any glyph to bounce back.

This system is very mindless. I don't care what sells or for how much. I don't care how often something sells. I don't care what the popular thing to do is. I don't care whats a raid or pvp glyph. I don't care if its a good or bad one. All I care about is getting my stack full every time I craft.

Pro Tip: Instead of crafting the glyphs that sell for nothing, buy them off the AH if you can get them for less then the cost of mats.

Featured Mod: KevTool NoobDetector

This mod watches all your chat channels and tracks stupid things people say. You can shift click the name to see a percentage that will tell how much of a noob they are. The word list is a work in prorgess and the formula could use some work but it is tracking and reporting noobness.

Install this mod and it will track in the background. Let it gather some data and later shift click the names in chat. It watches key words, use of caps, and repeating the same thing over and over. I spent some time in the barrens while testing it and picked up a lot of key phrases to use. And yes, I do know that it will report more then 100% noob. Watch out for those guys.

Contracting people to work markets.

I see a few markets I need to get into but I do not have the patterns/professions to work them in bulk. I know I can get others to make that stuff, but I'm behind on my own crafting. Then I saw someone asking for gold in trade.

He was asking nice enough and was max level. I asked him what his professions were. One of them he linked was one that I did not have and covered a market that I was not in. I know I could have set him up to make what I needed but I didn't want to bother with that. What I did instead was offer him a deal.

I told him I could show him a good way to make gold if he agreed to pay me 10% of his profits for the first week. Told him we would use the honor system. He was a bit confused at first what I was talking about. So I explained it again. He only had to pay me if he made gold so if it did not work, he did not have to pay me anything. I also expected the odds of getting any gold to be slim.

The next day I log in on that character I was talking with him on and he whispered me. He was so excited that it was working. It worked exactly like I said it would and he was pumped. He told me gold was coming my way at the end of the week. I told him to go make me a lot of gold.

I talked about the different phases of selling glyphs. I don't know how true they hold, but that's how I progressed from one to another. I would get settled in how I was doing things then something small clicked and I took it to a new level.

One important detail in my process is how I decide what glyphs to craft. The system is so very simple. I start with a stack of every glyph I can possibly make. Then I go sell a many of them as I can. It is a great system when you are moving in bulk. The details of what gets sold are managed for you just by managing your stack size.

The mod I am working on fits into that system. I saw when I opened it up to some beta users that several people jumped onto this system of doing things. They all mentioned how much ink it would take and how much they needed. If you read my early posts you know that one thing that is important to my process is the back stock of ink that I keep. So when they start to mention how much more ink they need a few warning bells went of.

I make a lot of gold by catching the market when my competition is unprepared. I can tell when they run out of ink. I can tell when the herbs are too high for them to buy. They leave the market to me. Prices go up and more and more stuff list at fall back prices. I keep over a weeks supply of ink ready to go.

The last thing you want to do is invest you stock of ink into glyphs that will not sell when you need it to turn a profit on other glyphs. This system has an investment cost. I make glyphs that I do not expect to sell. The cost of gold is worth the time it will save but I never cut into important stock I needed.

If you are ready to make that jump then go for it. Do not let me stop you. It a great method if your operation is in place to support it.

Farming Crystallized Fires

Just my two copper featured this spot to farm eternal fires in storm peaks. Its in the little cave in the north east end of the map. You see 2 caves. One has eternal air and the other eternal fire. That is the best place in the game to farm eternal fire.

If you take the right class its almost insane. As a ret pally you can mow them down non stop. even pulling 2-3 at a time. The do a little stun but your probably waiting for a cooldown anyway. You can kill them almost at a fast pace as you race up and down that cave. The faster you can kill them, the faster they spawn. My record farming session got me an eternal every 4 minutes.

There is a camp close by so you can go vendor,repair, send mail and get back to it. Even when when you have to share the cave, the rate you get eternals is very fast. If you can do a zone coverage, you will both make out better then racing from mob to mob.

I used to make this my afk spot. After raids or while waiting on groups to get started, I would just work that cave. The greys alone turn a good deal of gold.

I tried that same thing on my priest because I was in the area and needed 2 eternals. It turned out to be very frustrating. The stuns and constant adds were just to annoying. So if you struggle there, try an alt instead. The drop rate is still good, just have to be killing them fast.

Understanding bulk purchases

Whenever I see someone trying to buy in bulk it makes me wonder what they are up to. They want that item for a reason. When they are asking near market value it makes me wonder even more. In the markets I work, its easy to spot what they plan to do with it. Some supplemental items tip you off.

If I see someone asking for adders/lichbloom/icethorn I think inscription. If they add eternal life I know its for darkmoon cards. If the request has frost lotus, he is an alchemist. If they are working the darkmoon cards, I can offer them snowfall ink. If he is an alchemist and is looking more for icethorn and lichbloom at the right price, I will offer him some of mine.

Next time you see someone asking for something in bulk, try to figure out why. Either he has a market he is working or its for personal reasons. Your competition could be tipping you off to a big market that you don't know about yet.

Keyword: auction house banker

This site is dedicated to the things I experience while working the auction house on my banker. I do pay attention to the web stats to see what is driving people to my blog. One such stat is search keywords. Searching for my auction house banker brings up my blog on google.

Sometimes I see other key words that bring people here. I am going to start a new series dedicated to the keywords that drive people to this site. At the moment it is a small list but expect it to be a re-occurring topic.

If people are searching for something and ending up on my site indicate that people would be interested in more details on that subject. This should also improve my ranking on those search terms.

Breaking New Ground

The way I am making gold with inscription is not new. Many people before me did the same thing and shared the results. The process has changed over time as new people try it out and discover different ways of doing things. I saw myself as one of those people. I jumped into the system and took a good hard look at it. I picked at the details and tried different things. I also took a step back and looked at the big picture.

Early on I was struggling with a part of the process that just took too much time. What do I craft? I tried a few ways on my own and I tried the ways others were doing it.

My first method was to recraft anything that sold. When I collected gold from my mailbox, I would queue up each sale in skillet and craft it later. It was simple but it was easy to miss things. If I let something sell out, I never knew to recraft it.

Several people use altaholic to show how many of something you have in the tooltip. Works great even if you don't use alts. I would then walk the list of glyphs and make a few of those that listed over 5g. I did that every few days and I was still crafting from my sales.

A method I saw the big players suggest over and over is set stack sizes. The idea here is you have a set number of every glyph. When you go to recraft, you fill those stacks back up. You are only crafting the ones that sold at that point without tracking sales. I started small and worked up but I quickly saw how much time it took to check each stack and queue up the amount needed. As I looked at that process, the pieces of it were very simple.

Select a glyph, mouse over it in the skill window, get the total count, subtract that value from your desired stack size, queue that many items. Then repeat. This required no judgement or thinking. It was a process. A very exact set of steps. I knew this could be automated.

After hunting for someone else to automate this I broke down and did it myself. I interfaced directly with the mods that I was using. The result was a very small script that would do exactly what I did manually. It did in a matter of second something that took a large chunk of my time to do. Over the last few weeks I have used it and shared it with one or 2 people that were grateful for the script.

This is my chance to give back to all those that provided me with the great information that got me to where I am in the glyph market. I am working on cleaning this script up and releasing it as a mod. Consider it in early beta now with a full release down the road. I will give more details on it later.

The Power of Quick Auctions 2

This is the mod that makes you a rock star at posting glyphs. I talked about QA before, but a update has been released for it a while ago. It has moved from the command line to a gui to manage your items.

You do have to make a group for your glyphs and add them all to it. I did not like that idea at first but the author made it easy to add everything at once. When you first start out put everything in the same group. More experienced glyphers will create a group for single and double ink glyphs and manage the threshold differently.

One thing that QA2 does better then QA is posting faster. It had a multi threaded posting ability that allow it to post several auctions at the same time. The speed is very fast. If you leave it a good deal of bag space, it is even faster. I think it uses all your empty bag slots to split different stacks at the same time now.

The power behind this mod is how easily it lets you post all your glyphs at once. You run up to the AH and click the post button. It does a quick scan of the glyphs on the AH then it post yours faster than any other mod I know. If your competition is using anything else or doing it by hand, they will not be able to keep up with you.

Do not overlook its ability to cancel auctions you are undercut on too. If you keep your inventory on the AH, this is a life saver. It will check each glyph for you to see if its had been undercut. If it is undercut and it can post a lower priced one, it will auto cancel the auction for you. If someone undercut lower then your min price, it will just leave it there. and if you are the only person up, it will cancel it so you can repost at a high price.

This is a powerful weapon that in one person hand can easily give them the market. At the same time, if too many people use it too aggressive the market will crash by the constant undercutting. My next post I will give info about the weaknesses of QA.

Profit from free enchants

If you keep your eyes on the trade channel you can find some realy good deals. One of my favorite that a lot of people do not pick up on are the people giving away good enchants. It is very common for people power leveling encahnting to just give enchants away. Any enchant those people can not give away gets burned up over and over on some item in their bag.

Sometimes they offer a good encahnt for free. If you are quick to spot this you can grab several scrolls for them to enchant. I can usualy get 5 at a time when I spot this deal. Then sell them in the next few days for 60-90G each.

A lot of people still don't know how to enchant a scroll or that it still gives a skill up. Even if you have to buy the blank off of the AH it is still easy gold when you spot it. I bet I made 1.5k gold off this in the last year.

Loaning Gold

I have a few close friend that I give gold to and a few others that I would loan it to if they asked. Everyone else I just put to work instead. My guild knows I make way too much gold and I have shared ideas with lots of them. It is not very often that someone asks me for gold. This weekend someone broke down and asked me for 200g for repairs and something else that I forget.

I didn't say no. I didn't even talk about his request. What I did was ask him what his professions are. He was a miner and a black smith. I went to the AH and checked some prices on things. I offered to buy all the eternal earth he had for 7.5G each. He had 17 of them for me. I took a look at the Eternal Belt Buckle market and the mark up was huge. I got some shadows from him, waters off the AH, and smelted several stacks of saronite that I had.

I then tossed him the mats to make 17 Eternal Belt Buckles and tipped him 25G for doing it. I then tossed them all on the AH and sold them for a 5 gold profit each over the weekend. I told him was I was doing and suggested that he do that to make gold.

He didn't think he had the time to go mine or the gold to buy the mats. I guess its a good thing I never loaned him anything and put him to work instead.

The way of the Goblin

If you are reading my blog you already know of the Greedy Goblin. If you like him or not, he does have some insight on some markets and how to work them. The key is you have to know when to use them, when not to use them, and when to walk away.

When I moved into the netherweave bag market, I was able to use several of his ideas. The supply of netherweave is very strong. It will dry up from time to time, but never for that long. When netherweave is in high supply, then I can produce bags in high supply.

When I check the market, I see a few people with bags up for double the cost of mats. Why, because people pay it. How often is a different story but yes I think they do sell bags for that much. My supply is almost unlimited so I want to sell more faster. So I post at 60-75% of market and that's exactly what happens. If I see someone post 5-10 bags under me, the I know my price is too high. So I go down another 10-20% and post 10 more.

Those bags sell faster then I ever thought they would. At lower prices, people are buying 4 at a time. Instead of getting one bag to get by for a while, they get all 4 at once. I am still playing with that price point and number to post. But I feel like I am narrowing in on it. I would like to turn this into a 48 hour auction item. I already baby sit several markets more then I should.

Glyphs: Phase 4

At this point you have 2-3 chars that post your glyphs for you. It became too much work to move them into and out of the bank. A few classes of glyphs are dedicated to each alt. You know by color what glyph goes to what character.

Your operation is huge at this points. You feel like you control the herb prices on the AH. They never drop below your buyout price. Your stockpile of ink would last a week without restocking. You craft your glyphs to a full stack when you craft.

Snowfall is a dead item. You produce so much of it that you will never be able to unload it. You do what you can with it but now consider it worthless for your calculations. This brings your cost per ink up and even with a minor adjustment in your threshold you are sill making a profit on the glyphs.

This is the point where you realize that you spend way too much time working inscription. The gold is great and comes in fast, but the time commitment is killing you. You mill it all yourself because nobody can supply you with all the ink you need. You control the market and you know there is no possibly way that your competition can spend as much time as you on it. You outproduce him and you know he cannot keep up.

Glyphs: Phase 3

At this point you are a master of the posting automation and the cancel/post cycle is second nature. You find yourself doing this every chance you get. The profits are starting to flow in and its more then you expected you could make.

You are working directly with suppliers. You have a few farmers either whispering you when you log in or sending you stuff COD. Negotiations have begun with people that make cards. You either buying ink from them or selling snowfall to them.

You primary herbs are adder/lichbloom/icethorn because of the snowfall and you are starting to get a over stock of it. As your production gets bigger at this point you are making more snowfall then you can sell. So you have to start adjusting your ink costs to account, but its no big deal at this point. Glyphs are selling well even with the competition.

You have all of the other posters on your friends list. You find yourself hopping on to post when they log off. You know they just undercut all your auctions. So you have to go correct that.

All those glyphs are starting to be a problem. You have way more then your bags will hold. You have several inscription bags in the bank now and you have to make 2 trips to the AH to post every thing. Your bags fill up often when clearing the mailbox now so you have to shift glyphs to and from the bank bags.

You are a top seller on your server. You sit with 20% of the glyphs on the AH and are building a huge bank roll. More gold is coming in then you know what to do with it.

Glyphs: Phase 2

To make the jump to phase 2, you probably already had it in your mind that it was a profitable professions. Some guide or blog gave you the idea and you had to try it for your self. At this point you are focusing on buying all the books of glyph mastery. Research is something else you are doing daily.

You know the leveling glyphs don't sell well, but you see potential in the book glyphs. The research glyphs really shine. They are not all that great but the competition is lighter. You make a little bit of everything that you see sells over a set value. You find yourself with all inscription bags to hold all the glyphs you are working. Most of your glyphs get reposted whenever they land in your bags.

Finding herbs at a discount is now a focus. You are making and selling a lot more gyphs then before. If you were buying ink off the ah, you have moved to milling herbs. This is the point where you look at selling snowfall to offset the cost of your ink. You do the math and see that the snowfall makes your ink dirt cheap. You may even shift your focus to the higher quality herbs when you discover this.

If you have any competition, this is where you start to play the undercut game. Every time you hit the AH, you cancel any undercut auctions and repost at a few silver undercut. Posting automation is just starting to work into it for you. Your first night of using an auto poster tippled your profits for the day.

My Glyph Operation in Review

I think I got myself lost in the process as I grew my inscription into the monster that it is now. The system is as automated as I can make it and it take a lot of time. I even wrote a small mod to help out (I'll have more info on this later). Sweetiebird recently reminded me that 80% of your profits come from 20% of your work. So I need to review what 20% is making me the most gold. Lets see what I can look at.

1) Posting schedule: I repost 4-6 times a day. I need to go back and look at what times of the day I make the most gold. Some of those posts I do are fairly close together. How much more is that 2nd posting going to make me than if I would have just let them sit where they were. Or how much more did that posting make me if I know I will post again soon. One or the other could be doubling my efforts with little return. A few of my postings are at key times of the day. All the others that I slip in when I can are the ones I need to look at.

2) Threshold price: If I increase my threshold then I will not be selling glyphs that fall below that. I will be posting less glyphs but the ones I do sell will have a higher profit margin. The more glyphs I sell the more gold I make. I also have to mill more herbs, sell more snowfall, make more glyphs, and gather more items from the mailbox. So selling the dirt cheap glyphs adds time to the process for each one. My total sales would go down. So would my time spent and it would increase my gold per hour.

3) What glyphs to post: I have been of the school of thought that you post every glyph that you can make. It is a numbers game. The more numbers you have up, the better the numbers work for you. What this does is causes me to use more chars to try and post every glyph. If it does not sell, then it does not add time to the rest of my process. I have several glyphs that I will sell 5-13 of in a day. I also have 120 each day that never sell. At the moment I have glyphs grouped by class when I should group them by how many they sell. Then I could selectively post the ones that sell more often then the ones that don't.

4) Skip the singles: I recraft every glyph that sells. While I am crafting, I have to shift and move then around as my bag fills up. Once I am done, I have to filter out the ones that go to my alts and dump them in the guild bank. I think I could skip over items that only sold a few. I have stacks of 14 so going into the next day a few short on the ones that don't sell often will not hurt much. When I do have to craft them, I will be doing more at a time. The detail here is they stack. So if skipping the singles frees up enough bag space to prevent me from running out of bag space while crafting, it would make things go smoother.

5) Craft more at once and less often. The last time I scaled up I just ended up selling more glyphs. What I thought would be a weekly crafting session stayed a nightly one with more to craft. I guess I need to scale up larger and produce more at a time. If I do this, I will produce more of the better sellers. Before I scaled everything up to the same stack size. If I just craft more of the hot items when I do it, I could slip to a every other day crafting sessions at a minimum.

It looks like I have several options in cutting down the amount of work and time I put into it. A few of those have a breaking point where they don't save much time until I hit that point.

Glyphs: Phase 1

You have just power leveled inscription. Probably ended up farming old world herbs to help or paying way to much for those same herbs on the AH. The cheap ones were in short supply but you managed.

You found several glyphs selling for almost nothing. You almost feel like it's not worth posting them and are almost temped to vendor them. You did find the DK glyphs to sell fairly well and possibly one or two that sold for 10g-30g. You probably kept up on recrafting the DK glyphs and those special high sellers.

In a matter of days those good glyphs crashed like a rock on you. Every time you post them, someone else undercuts you. Odds are if it was a trainer glyphs, someone dumped 6-10 on the market and it crashes. You curse at them under your breath a little bit but work the glyphs that sell.

You are just getting started. Getting a feel for the market here. If you were doing this on your own, this would probably be the extent of your glyph selling. You may look around and find other good sellers only to see them fall in price as you try to keep them up. If you stay on top of your research, you will find a handful that feel like very few people have and you can turn a profit.

You don't really know what to do with the snowfall at this point. You probably drop them on the AH and don't think much about it if you are milling your own herbs. If you didn't do the math behind it yet, you are trying to buy the cheap herbs or ink off the AH.

If someone is working your market hard, they will probably frustrate you. Many people leave the game at this point claiming there is no gold in inscription. If they only knew how close they were.

Snatch List: Netherweave Cloth

I decided to start a series covering my snatchlists. I covered Borean Leather yesterday and decided to keep with the idea. Netherweave Cloth should be on every tailors snatch list. It is such a simple flip to make to turn it into a Netherweave Bag. The math is so simple too. 1 stack of cloth is one bag. Check the prices of those 2 items and if there is a profit jump in.

I snatch it at 7g a stack and sometimes buy more at 7.5G. Add a rune thread and I sell it from 10-11G. I can list several bags at that price and they sell. My competition like to post at 15G but I don't expect that to last long. My bigest issue is running out of cloth to make bags with. They sell much faster then I can buy the cloth for them.

I know tailoring prabably has some other good markets and I plan to dig into them to see if there are other areas I should be taking advantage of. But this is such a simple flip that I cannot pass it up.

Snatch List: Borean Leather

I love to watch Borean Leather on my server. The market floods from time to time and you can catch stacks and stacks of it way under value.

First lets define vender value for Borean Leather. I never vender it, but if my markets crash I can still turn a profit by vendering it. Frostscale Leggings take 12 pieces and vender for 5g35s64c. That works out to 44.6 silver a leather or 8.93g a stack. I see it sell for as low as 30 silver on my server. So daily I purchase all leather under 41 silver. But lets look at the other ways to make gold off of it.

First is to check the conversion to Heavy Borean Leather. That takes 6 leather a piece. At 41 silver anything I sell over 2.58G is profit. I sold several stacks at 4.3G each last night. Thats higher then the norm. 3.5G is more commonly what I sell it at. But thats still a good profit.

Heavy Borean Armor Kit is another item that sells well for me. It takes 4 heavy leather (24 borean leather) at a cost of 9.8G and sells for 15G or more.

And an item I mentioned previously is Dark Iceborne Leggings. It takes 4 heavy leather (24 borean leather) and 1/2 an eternal shadow at a cost of 11.3G and sells for 15G or more as a Dream Shard.

With these three options I can buy every piece of borean leather that I see and know that I have several channels to push it onto the market. If I keep buying up all the supply, then it also prevents anyone from moving into those markets. This is one item on my daily snatch list.

Inventory: This is what I have

So I decided to do an inventory of what I have. I bet 80-90% of my gold is from inscription, so its no surprise that 80-90% of my inventory is dedicated to that. I have 4-5 bank tabs of random stuff, most things I should vendor. I used those for overflow before but have let them fill up with garbage.

I do have 3 bank tabs of mostly ink, 1 tab 1/2 full of herbs to mill, and 1 tab of random inscription stuff. I have another tab just for bulk herb purchases. Its empty at the moment so I use it to move glyphs from alt to alt for posting. That's 6150 ink of the sea.

I have 3 chars for posting glyphs now. Those I stack up to 14 most of the time. They are either in my bags or listed on the AH.

I just spend a huge chunk of gold on some gear. So my gold pile is much lower then it was before the weekend. I have around 8,500 gold on my various characters and 46,000 gold in the bank. Here are some screenshots to show you the size of my operation.
